With August just about here, plenty of this year's unrestricted free agents (UFAs) have been signed. However, a former St. Louis Blues forward is still looking for his new home, as Jakub Vrana remains without a contract and is a UFA.
With August just about here, plenty of this year's unrestricted free agents (UFAs) have been signed. However, a former St. Louis Blues forward is still looking for his new home, as Jakub Vrana remains without a contract and is a UFA.
Vrana split this past season between the Washington Capitals and Nashville Predators, where he had nine goals, five assists, and 14 points in 39 games. This was after he had two goals and six points in 21 games with the Blues during the 2023-24 season. However, he spent most of the 2023-24 campaign in the AHL with the Springfield Thunderbirds, posting 16 goals and 36 points in 42 games.
Overall, while Vrana has had some quiet seasons at the NHL level over the last few years, it is fair to wonder if he could still get an opportunity with a team that is looking for more secondary offensive production. The 29-year-old forward has had strong seasons in the past, as he has scored at least 19 goals and recorded 36 points three times over his career. Perhaps this could lead to a club taking a shot on him with a professional tryout (PTO).
In two seasons with the Blues, Vrana had 12 goals, eight assists, and 20 points in 41 games. This included scoring 10 goals and recotding 14 points in 20 games with the Blues during the 2022-23 season.
