Alright. Back to our normally scheduled programming. Vanderbilt has only dropped 2 ranked games, back-to-back, against South Carolina and Ole Miss, but we rebounded with back-to-back wins including in a game against no. 16 Kentucky. Now? We have a home stand against no. 11 Oklahoma and no. 4 Texas before we get a breather against Georgia. After that, we end the season with three games against ranked teams. We are ending our season with far and away our most difficult stretch of games, but with a top-10 power forward and a top-10 shooting guard (who is also widely considered the second favorite to win Player of the Year) leading an all-around incredible team.
We won our last game in nail-biting fashion thanks to a 37-point effort from Blakes (imagine if she had scored more than 11 points in the first half!) that kept us ahead in the fourth.
The story with Oklahoma is Aaliyah Chavez. The likely SEC Freshman of the Year (sorry Aubrey!) joined All-American Raegan Beers in Norman and immediately became essential to the success of this Sooners team, leading the team in scoring, assists, and made threes. Her most notable performance was a 26-point, 8-assist effort that propelled Oklahoma to their overtime victory over the Gamecocks. If we want to win this game, we will have to figure out how to contain her and limit the ways she is able to power the rest of this team.
