The Atlanta Braves are enduring an incredibly disappointing season, sitting at 44-60 and in the midst of a five-game losing streak after the Texas Rangers completed the sweep on Sunday.
Expectations were sky-high this season after Atlanta had not missed the postseason since 2017, and much of the championship core from their 2021 World Series title run remained intact. Unfortunately, several former All-Stars have underperformed, and the starting rotation has been decimated by an abundance of injuries.
Early Sunday morning, the team announced that Grant Holmes had been placed on the 15-day injured list with elbow inflammation. With Holmes sidelined, every member of the Braves’ opening week rotation now occupies a spot on the injured list.
Holmes had been one of Atlanta’s most reliable starters, posting a 3.99 ERA over 21 outings this year.
Following Sunday’s loss to Texas, the Braves transferred Holmes to the 60-day injured list to clear roster space for a newly acquired arm.
In a deal with the St. Louis Cardinals, Atlanta acquired right-hander Erick Fedde and cash considerations in exchange for a player to be named later or cash considerations.

Fedde has struggled in St. Louis this season and is expected to provide innings as the Braves navigate the second half outside the playoff picture.
In 20 starts for the Cardinals, the 32-year-old veteran owns a 3-10 record, a 5.22 ERA, and 63 strikeouts.
Fedde brings eight major-league seasons of experience after he made his big-league debut with the Washington Nationals back in 2017.
