Last year, the Chicago Bears were a popular preseason pick to become one of the biggest breakout teams in the NFL. While they had some bright spots, head coach Matt Eberflus still got fired after a 4-8 start, leading to the arrival of Ben Johnson.
Not only did the Bears overhaul their coaching staff, but Chicago’s general manager Ryan Poles also upgraded some of the roster’s biggest weaknesses. Add it all up, and the Bears are once again one of the most popular picks to take a massive step forward in 2025.
Part of that improvement is expected to come from the eight-man 2025 NFL Draft class, which includes second-round selection Luther Burden III. Early during the pre-draft process, some felt like the Missouri receiver could sneak into the first round, yet the Bears managed to snag him with the 39th overall pick.
However, according to his new head coach, Burden is a “bit behind” the curve when compared to his peers.
“It shows up already. We were in the walk-through yesterday afternoon and the misalignments – we have to re-huddle, we have to start it all over again — so he’s a little bit behind right now.”

Burden has already missed valuable time with a hamstring injury, so him being a bit behind isn’t even his fault. However, it’s the latest example that even a few missed days of practice can make a big impact on the football field.
