Real Madrid intend to strengthen their centre-back department next summer, with David Alaba expected to move on and question marks lingering over the future of Antonio Rudiger.
Eder Militao has once again spent a large part of the season injured, raising concerns over his long-term fitness as well.
As such, one of the priorities for the summer is to sign one or two new centre-backs depending on the exit operations.
However, Real Madrid have found themselves running out of targets in recent weeks, with names like Marc Guehi and Dayot Upamecano slipping out of their hands.
Real Madrid firm up interest in Nico Schlotterbeck
Given the situation, Real Madrid are now committed to making a move for Borussia Dortmund defender Nico Schlotterbeck, reports journalist Jorge Picon on El DesMarque.

The German international’s current contract with the Black and Yellows stands to expire in 2027 and efforts to renew have fallen through.
As such, the report states that Dortmund have pretty much given up and are now resigned to losing their ace defender in the summer to avoid the risk of losing him for free next year.
Real Madrid, for their part, hold Schlotterbeck in high regard and are actively pursuing the signing of the 26-year-old centre-back.
Los Blancos, though, are aware that a move for the German will be difficult as he is courting interest from several clubs across Europe apart from them.
So, there may even be the possibility of a bidding war to secure the signing of Schlotterbeck in the summer. But, for now, the Borussia Dortmund mainstay is being seen as a viable target at Valdebebas and his name will continue to be discussed more in the coming weeks.
