The timing could not be worse for Bayern.
Bayern Munich’s 5-1 victory over TSG Hoffenheim has maintained a six-point lead over second placed Borussia Dortmund in the Bundesliga table, ending a bit of a funk for the Bavarians. With a sigh of relief, Bayern should be able to turn their focus to the match against Rasenballsport Leipzig in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday.
Unfortunately, it is not that simple.
It turns out the tie is in real jeopardy of being delayed. Sport1, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, explains what the issue is:
Wednesday’s DFB Pokal quarterfinal between FC Bayern and RB Leipzig is in jeopardy due to a planned strike of public transport on the same day in Munich. Buses will be affected, but especially the U-Bahn, which carries numerous fans to and from the Allianz Arena on match days.
CEO [Jan-Christian] Dreesen: “We will provide information tomorrow on how we will deal with this. On Wednesday we have a special situation due to the announced strike. We had a long internal meeting today with, among others, the MVG (Munich Transport Company), the police, and the other authorities necessary for such a game, and we will have to see how we organize it.”
Since Bayern do not have to play in the Champions League playoffs, the game could possibly be rescheduled for the following week.
Rescheduling should not be an issue for either club. Bayern do not have to worry about the playoffs while Leipzig failed to reach Europe at all this season and have no such worries to contend with.
It would be a massive shame for the fans who have already booked tickets to watch the clash, though. Finding time to watch a match midweek is very difficult and postponing the match will mean many will miss their opportunity to watch it altogether. Still, if no solutions, Bayern may not have a choice but to postpone.
