Inma Gabarro scored her first goal for Everton Women as they beat London City Lionesses to record their first win under interim manager Scott Phelan.
Gabarro scored the only goal of the game in the 62nd minute as the Toffees recorded back-to-back wins for the first time since December 2023.
Brian Sorensen was sacked from his position as the head coach last week with the Toffees lingering dangerously close to the relegation zone. Despite picking up all three points here, Everton continue to be ninth in the Women’s Super League table with 14 points from 15 games. The consecutive wins, however, have helped the side open up a five-point lead over bottom-placed Leicester City.
London City dominated the contest from the beginning, with the hosts coming close to scoring on several occasions. Toffees goalkeeper Courtney Brosnan had to make several top saves while Grace Geyoro’s glancing header from a corner even struck the post.
However, Everton took the lead after Nicole Momiki pounced on a loose ball and threaded it through to Gabarro who found the back of the net with a powerful strike.
Everton will now look to secure their second consecutive win at Goodison Park when they host West Ham on Sunday, February 15.
