In terms of cost, this is likely the biggest swap the D-backs have made so far this winter. I suppose you could argue the trade of Jake McCarthy, a five-year resident on the roster had a bigger historical impact. But in terms of their 2025 production, Alexander beats both McCarthy and Kyle Backhus, the other player with major-league experience to be dealt by Arizona in the off-season. With the majority of the players coming back still a long way from the majors, the true value of the deal won’t be known for years. But let’s not stop that from doing what we do, and having an immediate reaction to the trade!
What grade do you give the Blaze Alexander trade?
There’s a fair amount of control on both sides: one more year for Kade Stroud. On the other hand, he is a reliever, rather than a position player, and that will cap his value. On the other other hand, there’s no denying the team needed relief help, and it may be that they were selling high on Alexander. On the other otherother hand… there’s an octopus.
