Florida A&M women’s basketball rode the wave of Miya Giles-Jones to break its three-game losing streak.
The redshirt sophomore 6-foot forward dominated Prairie View A&M with a 19-point, 15-rebound performance in the Rattlers’ 80-61 win at home inside the Al Lawson Jr. Multipurpose Center Thursday, Feb. 5.
Giles-Jones, a transfer from Fordham, recorded the double-double in 26 minutes of action.
After a tie ball game as both teams scored 11 points in the first quarter, FAMU continued to build its lead to earn the double-digit Southwestern Athletic Conference victory.
Shaniyah McCarthy scored 18 points, and Breazia Robinson notched 16 to join Giles-Jones as double-figure scorers.
FAMU women’s basketball is now 6-15 and 5-5 in SWAC games. The Prairie View A&M Panthers are 2-19 overall and have a winless SWAC record of 0-10.
The Rattlers return to action this Saturday, Feb. 7, on the front end of a SWAC women’s and men’s doubleheader versus the Texas Southern Tigers at the Lawson Center.
Women tip off at 4 p.m., and men follow at 6 p.m.
Texas Southern women's basketball is 9-13 and 5-5 in SWAC games. It lost at Bethune-Cookman in Daytona Beach 69-64 on Thursday.
The FAMU versus Texas Southern games will be on SWAC TV.
