Sam Allardyce opens up on why he is ‘really upset’ with David Moyes at Everton

Everton need to turn their league form around quickly if they want to keep their European hopes alive. David Moyes will be as frustrated as anyone, knowing how much a few extra wins over the past two months could have changed the table.

Everton need to turn their league form around quickly if they want to keep their European hopes alive.

David Moyes will be as frustrated as anyone, knowing how much a few extra wins over the past two months could have changed the table.

Going into the weekend, Everton find themselves just six points behind fifth-placed Chelsea.

Moyes has made it clear that qualifying for Europe is the aim this season, and that goal is still very much within reach.

Everton are still well positioned to make a run in the final months of the season, but there is work to be done if they want to close that gap.

Former Everton manager Sam Allardyce has observed a shift in Moyes’ demeanour that he did not like.

Wayne Rooney has previously spoken highly of Allardyce, having played under him during his time back at Everton.

‘Big Sam’, who has now been out of management for almost three years, says he has seen plenty change in the game since then.

One thing he pointed out on the No Tippy Tappy Football podcast was that Moyes no longer wears suits during matches, something he did not expect from someone like him.

“Even Moyesy has got rid of his suits,” Allardyce said.

“Now, that’s really upset me, Moyesy, because you’re the you’re the man to keep the tradition. I mean, ‘I’m the manager of Everton, not the coach, the manager, give me a suit’.”

Moyes was even booked recently for his celebrations after an equaliser against Brighton & Hove Albion. It is one more sign of how different things are compared to earlier in his career.

If the Scotsman had still been wearing a suit on Saturday afternoon at the Amex Stadium, it is unlikely we would have seen quite as much movement and emotion from him on what became another dramatic day for Everton in their chase for Europe.

David Moyes hoping for turnaround in Everton’s results

Since the start of the year, Everton have managed just one win from their six matches.

Aside from their FA Cup exit to Sunderland, they have picked up only six points out of a possible 15 in the league.

If they are serious about pushing for a European spot, that kind of return will not be enough.

The addition of Tyrique George should help strengthen their attacking options, and it looks like a step in the right direction for the club.

Still, it is not clear whether the winter window did enough to address all their needs. That is something that will become clearer as the season goes on.
