Well there we have it. Chelsea have just confirmed on their official website that Joao Felix has completed his move to Al Nassr of the Saudi Pro League.

Felix disappoints – but Chelsea somehow profit

Joao Felix departs Chelsea.

Felix arrived just a year ago at Chelsea in a really shocking move from Atletico Madrid which seemed to take place simply because we wanted to give the Spanish side enough cash to in turn buy Conor Gallagher from us, solving our short term FFP cash crunch.

Despite playing 20 games and scoring 7 goals, it was never a move that looked like it was going to work out. Just as in his first spell at Stamford Bridge, he was all flashy moments with no substance. Enzo Maresca quickly figured out that he didn’t really fancy the ex-Benfica man in the big games, and soon relegated him to Conference League duty.

By January he was on loan at AC Milan, and he didn’t do much more to impress there. The downward spiral meant that it looked like we would struggle to rid ourselves of the Portugal international – but this miracle bid from Al Nassr has truly bailed us out – and makes it possible that we somehow actually make a decent profit from the whole affair.

Joao Felix’s strange career continues steady decline

What will Joao Felix’s legacy be at Chelsea? It’s likely to be very similar to the one he had at Atletico Madrid, Barcelona and AC Milan. One of great promise and brutal disappointment.

At this point, one has to say that the Portugal star has had more than his fair share of chances at top European teams, and has failed to convince them all (playing under all manner of different coaches and in different setups) that he’s a player they can count on.

At some point, he needs to look at himself and wonder how he’s ended up in Saudi Arabia at this age.
