Spain’s State Commission against Violence, Racism, Xenophobia, and Intolerance in Sport has proposed disciplinary action against a supporter accused of throwing a banana at Vinícius Júnior during Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey Round of 16 match against Albacete on January 14 at the Carlos Belmonte.

According to a report compiled by the National Police’s National Sports Office, stadium surveillance footage clearly identified the moment the object was thrown from the stands. The incident occurred during Albacete’s celebration of their final goal, with the projectile landing near the pitch while Vinícius was in the area.

The Commission has classified the act as a serious offense under Spain’s Law 19/2007, which targets violence, racism, xenophobia, and intolerance in sport. As a result, the proposed sanctions include a €5,000 fine and a 12-month ban from entering sports venues for the individual responsible.

The recommendation aligns with the Interior Ministry’s broader strategy to confront racist and violent behavior in football stadiums. Authorities continue to emphasize the use of surveillance technology, preventative measures, and firm disciplinary responses as part of their effort to improve safety and accountability at sporting events across Spain.

While the proposal must still follow the standard administrative process, the case represents another step in addressing the persistent abuse directed at Vinícius Júnior and other players in Spanish football.
