Harry Maguire has informed Manchester United chiefs that he would be willing to take a sizeable reduction on his wages to stay at the club beyond the summer.

That’s according to the iPaper Sport, which claims that United’s No.5 currently pockets £200,000 per week at Old Trafford.

However, he is open to taking a pay cut of around £80,000 if it means his Red Devils tenure is extended beyond the six-year mark.

As things stand, it’s unlikely that co-owners INEOS will activate his one-year extension, given it would allow Maguire to stay on the same salary for another 12 months. Negotiating reduced terms is an option, though.

Pete Hall’s report adds: “Some senior executives feel Maguire’s value on and off the pitch, in a dressing room devoid of leaders, could be crucial.”

In the same month that the 32-year-old is poised to be released, Casemiro will pull the curtains on his United tenure following four years in Manchester.

His deal also contains a 12-month option, but the seasoned Brazilian already confirmed last week that this summer would be the most suitable time to depart United.

Casemiro is hoping to go out on a high by aiding the side’s quest to secure Champions League football for next season. This campaign, he has been irreplaceable at the heart of United’s midfield, starting 21 of the 22 matches he’s been available for.

As for Maguire, he has endured a more stop-start season due to injuries, but he has started and played the full 90 minutes in each game under Michael Carrick thus far – all of which have been wins.

It will be interesting to see whether the England international retains his spot alongside Lisandro Martinez when Matthijs de Ligt returns from his lengthy injury setback.
