A great moment for the defender at Albacete.
Barcelona defender Ronald Araujo could not hide his joy after scoring on his return to Hansi Flick’s starting XI in Tuesday’s Copa del Rey win at Albacete.
Araujo headed home Barcelona’s second goal of the match to help secure a place in the last four and spoke to the media after the final whistle.
“Very happy to be in the semifinals. We took it very seriously; we knew it wouldn’t be easy,” he said.
“Cup matches aren’t decided until the very end. They found a goal, and it’s normal for them to come at you in the final minutes. The team knew how to handle it well. We’re in the semifinals, and that’s what’s important.
“We came in with a lot of seriousness and dominated the whole game. I’m happy for this team, we’re in another semifinal.
“Very happy, I thank God. Glad because we’re working well, and so is the club. I want to thank my teammates and the manager. Very happy because I feel better every day.”
Araujo’s goal was an emotional moment for the Uruguay international, who was back as a starter for the first time since the Champions League defeat to Chelsea.
He celebrated with a hug for manager Hansi Flick on the touchline and will now hope his team can go all the way and defend the title they won last season.
