Sky Sport Germany report that discussions are expected to take place in the coming weeks regarding the next steps for midfielder Schlager and goalkeeper Gulácsi, whose current deals are due to expire in the summer.
In Schlager’s case, the signs increasingly point towards a departure on a free transfer. Despite previous talks having taken place, there is a growing belief internally at Leipzig that a contract extension is highly unlikely at this stage. Juventus and Roma have both been mentioned as potential destinations for the Austrian international.
Gulácsi’s situation, however, appears to be more open. Leipzig are keen to retain the experienced Hungarian goalkeeper, provided he is willing to accept a reduced salary and a less prominent role within the squad. Recent discussions are said to have been constructive, with optimism remaining that an agreement could still be reached with the 35-year-old.
Schlager joined Leipzig in 2022 and has made 16 Bundesliga appearances this season, scoring twice. Gulácsi, meanwhile, has been a mainstay at the club since 2015, racking up 280 appearances in all competitions, including 20 league outings so far this campaign.
