Chelsea are still in talks over a deal for Rennes centre back Jeremy Jacquet according to journalist Jacob Steinberg.

The Blues were expected to be quiet this month, but their plans have changed and they are looking to sign a new centre back before Monday’s 7pm deadline.

Chelsea have identified Jacquet as their primary centre back target, but as of yet haven’t made an offer for the 20-year-old.

Chelsea still in talks over Jeremy Jacquet deal

Rennes are said to want £60m for Jacquet, and want to sell him in the summer, but would be prepared to agree a deal in this window.

Jacquet has reportedly made it clear he only wants to join Chelsea, although Liverpool are also said to be interested in the France under-21 international.

Personal terms have been agreed between Chelsea and Jacquet, but there’s still no agreement between the clubs, and Steinberg has provided an update.

He took to X.com and said:

“Chelsea remain in talks with Rennes over a deal for Jeremy Jacquet.

“Aaron Anselmino set to head to Strasbourg on loan.

Chelsea could bring Mamadou Sarr back from Strasbourg #cfc”

Jacquet is under contract with Rennes until 2029, and is regarded as one of the brightest centre back prospects in Europe.

Aaron Anselmino set to join Strasbourg on loan

Chelsea recalled Aaron Anselmino from Borussia Dortmund, and the Argentine is now set to join Strasbourg on loan for the second half of the season.

The 20-year-old is likely to be the replacement for Mamadou Sarr who’s expected to return to Chelsea before the end of the window.

Sarr is reportedly expected in London on Monday, and is a player Liam Rosenior knows well having worked with him for 18 months at Strasbourg.

It will be interesting to see what the plan is with Sarr and how often he plays, but Rosenior is clearly a fan of the Senegal international.
