Yankees predicted to add bullpen help with trade deadline nearing

The New York Yankees have already made two moves.

The New York Yankees have gotten to work on their trade deadline shopping. They added Ryan McMahon from the Colorado Rockies and also traded for Amed Rosario.

However, the Bronx Bombers are likely not done. They need some help on the pitching side.

Their starting rotation has been hit hard by injuries, but their bullpen is also deeply flawed. Relief arms will be at a premium in the coming days.

Mike Axisa of CBS Sports believes that bullpen help is going to be at the top of the Yankees list.

"The Yankees have tumbled down the standings the last few weeks but they remain in a wild-card spot, and it is not in the organization's DNA to sell when they are anything other than an abject disaster. Besides, the Yankees have already begun buying: they added third baseman Ryan McMahon and bench bat Amed Rosario over the weekend. Expect the Yankees to add bullpen help this week. Lots of it," Axisa wrote.

The Yankees bullpen hasn't been as dominant as it was expected to be. New closer Devin Williams hasn't been his usual self since being traded over from the Milwaukee Brewers.

But even with arms at a premium, the Yankees will have options. A team such as the St. Louis Cardinals will have three arms available, those being Steven Matz, Ryan Helsley and Phil Maton, all of whom could significantly bolster the Yankees bullpen.

The Yankees have already begun addressing their needs, and they have checked their first two items off of their to-do list. The offense is largely taken care of.

Now, the time has come for New York to address its pitching if they want to go on a run and make a return trip to the World Series. They fell in five games last October to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

They don't have a lot of top prospects to spare, but they might be willing to overpay if they can fill their needs.
