The Tigers could have two Cy Young Award winners on their team soon, a situation they are all too familiar with.
Despite some recent hiccups, the Detroit Tigers still hold a commanding lead over the Cleveland Guardians in the American League Central standings.
As a matter of fact, they're the only team in the division right now that is above .500 at the moment of this article's publication.
However, outside of Tarik Skubal, the reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, the team's starting pitching is lost, and unfortunately for the team, Skubal can't pitch every day.
But there is one hot commodity that could certainly be on his way to a different team by the time Thursday's deadline rolls around, and he has something in common with Skubal.
Miami Marlins starting pitcher Sandy Alcantara hasn't had a prime season as he still is trying to find his groove after missing all of last year with Tommy John surgery, but the 2022 NL Cy Young Award winner has shown promise in his recent starts and with the Marlins struggling mightily in the NL East standings, the team will surely be selling this year, and that very much could include Alcantara.
And should this deal become reality, this wouldn't be the first time in recent years that the Tigers have housed two Cy Young Award winners in their pitching staff, as Justin Verlander and Max Scherzer formed a frightening 1-2 punch on the mound for Detroit, which resulted in Verlander taking the 2011 AL Cy Young Award (as well as MVP) and Scherzer posting an incredible 21-3 record in 2013 on his way to his first of three awardings.
Should Alcantara see a return to his Cy Young form, those days that graced Detroit back in the early 2010s could see a return to Motor City in 2025 as the Tigers seek to win their first World Series in over 40 years.
