Just over three years ago, Sean Mannion was employed as an NFL quarterback. Mannion spent the 2023 season bouncing between the Minnesota Vikings’ and Seattle Seahawks’ practice squads before putting an end to his playing career.

Now, after two seasons as an assistant coach with the Green Bay Packers, Mannion is in charge of an NFL offense. The Philadelphia Eagles hired him as their offensive coordinator on Thursday, signaling the high regard that NFL teams already hold him in and how impressive he must be in his preparation and interviews. His work with Jordan Love in 2025 as the Packers’ quarterbacks coach was also impressive, and now he gets the keys to the car in Philly — though how closely head coach Nick Sirianni will keep those keys will remain to be seen.

For the Eagles, Mannion’s presence brings experience in the Matt LaFleur, Sean McVay, and Kevin O’Connell offenses, which could be a major shift from the schemes that they have run in recent years. Let’s take a closer look at Mannion’s fit in Philadelphia and more in today’s Cheese Curds.
