Amid a small tuberculosis outbreak at Riordan, two West Catholic Athletic League basketball games Thursday and a nonleague girls game Saturday have been either postponed or canceled, the Chronicle has learned.

Administrators at Riordan reported that three people connected to the school had active cases of tuberculosis.

The Thursday games - the Sacred Heart Cathedral boys at Riordan, and the Riordan girls at Sacred Heart Cathedral - have been postponed. The girls game was scheduled at 6 p.m. and the boys at 7:30 p.m.

According to Riordan boys coach Joey Curtin, discussions for makeup dates will take place Friday.

"There was nothing preventing our players and staff to play the (Thursday) games," Curtin said. "From my understanding, the concerns came from the parents of the (Sacred Heart Cathedral) team."

In addition, a nonleague girls game between second-ranked San Ramon Valley-Danville and No. 8 Riordan set for Saturday in San Francisco was canceled and won't be rescheduled, San Ramon Valley coach John Cristiano said.

"I was told both administrations agreed on that decision," Cristiano wrote via a text.

San Ramon Valley subsequently scheduled a road game against Caruthers (Fresno County), a two-time defending state champion, for Saturday.

Riordan's boys and girls played a doubleheader Tuesday at USF, where a capacity crowd of 3,500 gathered.

No other scheduling changes have been made to the basketball programs, Curtin said. His team, which is No. 1 in the Chronicle's rankings, is scheduled to play at 4:30 p.m. Saturday at Bellarmine. The next Riordan girls game is scheduled for Tuesday at St. Mary's-Stockton.

Messages to Riordan athletic director Bob Greene were not immediately returned.
