Dodgers Insider Gives Update on Potential Blockbuster Tarik Skubal Trade

The Los Angeles Dodgers have a leg up on their competitors in the chase for All-Star starting pitcher Tarik Skubal.

Detroit Tigers starting pitcher Tarik Skubal

Los Angeles Dodgers insider Doug McKain provided an update on L.A.’s pursuit of back-to-back AL Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal.

Skubal, 29, is entering his final year of team control with the Detroit Tigers, and his name has been floating around the rumor mill all season. The Dodgers are a clear suitor, as they’ve proven they’re willing to go after the top players to remain in contention for the World Series.

They aren’t the only team in the mix for the ace, though.

“As far as Tarik Skubal goes, the Yankees have been a team that have been inquiring and trying to get [him],” McKain said on Dodgers Dougout Live. “My understanding from the Yankees and the Mets is [the asking price] was too high for them. The Yankees haven’t added anyone yet. The Yankees don’t want to give up their top prospects and they don’t want to give up too much on their end.

“From my understanding, the Yankees, the Mets and one other team I’ve checked in on, they don’t see how it’s going to happen based on what they gauge is the asking price. I think this is great news for the Dodgers. If there was another team out there that was as all-in for the World Series as the Dodgers are, I think we would’ve seen him get traded this offseason.”

With the Mets and Yankees shying away from the southpaw, the Dodgers are in the driver’s seat. L.A. has plenty of pieces they could move for a superstar like Skubal, the question is whether or not they would part with them.

L.A. has plenty of starting pitching depth, and they’ve only gotten stronger after winning the World Series last season. If Skubal goes to free agency, which he very well still could, the Dodgers would still be the favorites to swoop him up and would avoid losing any prospects in the process.

Regardless of the situation, the Dodgers are certain to monitor the situation closely and make a move if they feel it’s the right decision for the franchise.
