Liverpool’s injury issues have become a real concern, especially after picking up another knock against Qarabag.
Joe Gomez and Ibrahima Konate were both unavailable for the Champions League fixture due to injuries and personal matters, which forced Arne Slot to make some adjustments.
Without his usual defensive pairings, Slot had no choice but to field a midfielder next to Virgil van Dijk.
The situation got worse when Jeremie Frimpong picked up an injury in the first half. It left Liverpool without a recognised right-back and still lacking any depth at centre-back.
Having someone like Jeremy Jacquet would have provided much-needed support under these circumstances.
Jeremy Jacquet shares where he wants to play
Last week, reports emerged that Liverpool were chasing Jacquet, though Chelsea and Bayern Munich were also said to be in the running.
Now there’s been a fresh update on his situation. Speaking on the Transfer Talk show, Dharmesh Sheth has provided an update on Jacquet’s situation.
It doesn’t sound great for Liverpool fans. Jacquet reportedly favours a move to Chelsea over Anfield.
He explained: “You mentioned Jacquet there, Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes. It’s our understanding that Chelsea is his preferred destination. I mean, that’s part of the battle, I guess.
“But the hardest part is clearly trying to agree a fee between the two clubs. We are running out of time in this transfer window.”
Is Liverpool expected to bring in a defender before deadline day?
Manchester City have already snapped up Marc Guehi this winter, and now it appears that Jacquet could be heading elsewhere too.
The window is set to close at 7pm on Monday, and early reports indicated that the Reds were unlikely to bring anyone in before the deadline.
Since then, both Gomez and Frimpong have picked up injuries, with the full extent of their problems still unclear.
Now, Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Liverpool may look to dip into the market if they can find an appropriate fit.
But even after Bradley’s injury earlier this month, Liverpool’s assessment was that there weren’t any right-back options worth pursuing.
