Former FIFA president Sepp Blatter is urging fans to boycott the 2026 World Cup, which will take place next summer in the United States.

The 2026 World Cup kicks off in just over five months, but the tournament is already mired in controversy following decisions made by Donald Trump. In recent hours, Sepp Blatter, the former head of FIFA, has reignited debate surrounding the event, directly calling on supporters to steer clear of the United States.

In a message posted Monday on X, the former FIFA president (1998–2015) voiced his support for a popular boycott of the World Cup, which is scheduled from June 11 to July 19. "For the supporters, just one piece of advice: avoid the United States! I think Mark Pieth is right to question this World Cup," he wrote.

Sepp Blatter is echoing the concerns raised by Swiss anti-corruption lawyer Mark Pieth, who was interviewed by the Tagesanzeiger and has criticized the domestic situation in the US. "What we are witnessing domestically, with the marginalization of political opponents and abuses by immigration services, hardly encourages supporters to attend," Pieth argued.

Blatter's stance further fuels an already heated controversy surrounding the 2026 World Cup, which is increasingly shaken by political tensions linked to Donald Trump's presidency.
