Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Cercle Brugge are set to lose their most experienced defender, Edgaras Utkus. The Lithuanian international will leave Cercle Brugge for around €1.2m and join Al-Kholood in Saudi Arabia. Cercle Brugge will certainly need to make a signing in central defence to replace Utkus given the lack of experience they have at the back this season.

Utkus leaves Cercle Brugge after five seasons with the club. Back in 2021 he left Monaco to join their sister club and has gone on to be a regular for the side. Overall he has made 113 appearances for Cercle Brugge, scoring six goals. Utkus is also a full Lithuanian international, having made his debut for the national side back in 2020.

Utkus will join an Al-Kholood side that are currently 13th in the Saudi Pro League, with 15 points from 17 games. They are four points above the relegation zone. Last season the side finished ninth in the Saudi Pro League.

The sale of Utkus, as well as the sale of Alan Minda, has brought in some decent money for Cercle Brugge this January. However, Utkus departure to the Saudi Pro League and the sides current situation in the Belgian Pro League means they can ill afford to just sit on their laurels.
