Vote for Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week for Jan. 18-24

Here are the Ames Tribune female Athlete of the Week candidates for the week of Jan. 18-24.

The week of Jan. 18-24 was another one full of action for high school female athletes from the Ames area.

The Ames girls wrestling team competed in the Iowa Alliance Conference meet. The Little Cyclone girls basketball team suffered tough losses to a pair of ranked non-conference teams in 4A No. 3 Norwalk and 5A No. 7 Cedar Falls.

The Roland-Story girls basketball team scored decisive wins over Nevada and Perry. The Gilbert girls basketball team came up short against North Polk; Colo-NESCO defeated Collins-Maxwell and Ballard split games with Boone and North Polk.

The Ballard and Gilbert girls wrestling teams were also in action.

There were several standout performances by area female high school athletes during the week.

Brooklyn Shoen, Ballard

Shoen came up big off the bench for the Ballard girls basketball team during a 54-35 victory over Boone on Jan. 20 at Huxley.

Shoen led Ballard with 12 points on the night. The freshman guard was a perfect 5 of 5 from the field with a 3-pointer, and she also pulled down four rebounds.

Danielliz Rosa, Ames

Rosa placed first at 145 pounds during the Iowa Alliance Conference girls wrestling tournament on Jan. 20 at Marshalltown.

After receiving a bye in the opening round, Rosa went 2-0 during the tournament. She pinned Mason City's Emily Janssen in 53 seconds and Marshalltown's Madylin McDonald in 3:27.

Tatum Heaberlin, Gilbert

Heaberlin, the No. 5 girls wrestler at 130 in 2A according to IAwrestle.com, went 3-0 for the Gilbert girls wrestling team during a quadrangular dual with Carlisle, Carroll and North Polk on Jan. 20 at Boone.

Heaberlin pinned Carroll's Maggie Dirkx in 3:27 130, Carlisle's Sophie Carney in 1:36 at 135 and North Polk's Jacie Halupnick in 1:18 at 130 during the meet.

Brinley Carlson, Roland-Story

Carlson had a hot week shooting the ball from behind the 3-point line for the Roland-Story girls basketball team.

Carlson was 5 of 7 from 3-point range in finishing with 17 points during a 70-31 Norse victory at Nevada on Jan. 20. She hit 4 of 5 shots from downtown in tallying 12 points and three assists during a 67-26 victory over Perry on Jan. 22 at Story City.

Felicity Sharp, Ballard

Sharp went 2-0 for the Ballard girls wrestling team during the Toreador Duals on Jan. 20 in Boone.

Sharp wrestled at 145 and she pinned Boone's Jordan Walker in 40 seconds and Winterset's Abigail Toth in 19 seconds.
