Teams are still lining up for a potential Giannis sweepstakes.
The Milwaukee Bucks have their superstar locked down for next season, but other teams are waiting for their opportunity to steal him away.
Over the past several weeks, the Bucks have made some splashes to try and keep Giannis Antetokounmpo happy. After three straight first-round exits, the Bucks’ status as a contender is questionable at best, but with Antetokounmpo around, there’s always a chance of something special happening.
As Antetokounmpo heads into next season with the only franchise he’s ever played with, there will be some considerable pressure on the team to perform. If Milwaukee can prove to him that it is truly among the top teams in the East, there should be no issues keeping him around, but it might be the last straw if the team struggles out of the gate.
In a recent story from NBA insider Marc Stein, he reported that Antetokounmpo is still holds the most “behind-closed-doors interest” from teams around the league, beating out LeBron James, who has been the subject of countless rumors this summer.
With a couple of the league’s biggest names on the minds of NBA front offices, it’s no surprise that Antetokounmpo would still be considered the top prize. After all, he’s already a two-time MVP and champion and will still only be 30 when next season tips off.
While there is still interest around the league in James, most teams have reportedly been unwilling to pursue him in the trade market. Meanwhile, there are likely many teams around the league ready to throw their best package Milwaukee’s way the second Antetokounmpo becomes available.
