Warriors Among Favorites to Land Key Center Upgrade

The Portland Trail Blazers are overstocked at the center position. With both Donovan Clingan and rookie Yang Hansen in the mix, and in need of minutes to develop into what they can be in the NBA, Robert Williams III continues to stick out as the odd man in Portland. Should the Blazers center be looking for a new home, the Golden State Warriors are among the favorites to land the two-way big man.

The Portland Trail Blazers are overstocked at the center position. They worked to address that by buying out DeAndre Ayton from his deal earlier this offseason. There is no guarantee that will be the end of it.

Bovada currently has the Warriors with the second-best odds to secure Williams upon him being made available. Golden State holds +255 odds to land the Blazers big, only trailing the Los Angeles Lakers (+185) as the favored destination.

Williams could provide crucial boost to center rotation

As things stand, the Warriors have all their eggs in the Al Horford basket, regarding a fix at the center spot. Williams would provide them with a more sustainable solution in the frontcourt.

The seven-year veteran is much younger, and could figure into the Warriors' plans for a while longer than the soon-to-be retired Horford. The cost of doing business should not be too difficult here.

Williams' $13.2 million contract should be fairly easy for the Warriors to add up salaries for in a potential deal. The cost of doing business would involve giving up some like a Buddy Hield or a Moses Moody, but the pathway is certainly there.

Williams averaged 5.8 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game in 17.6 minutes per game during the 2024-25 NBA season. The Blazers center shot 64.1 percent from the field in those 20 games.

The Warriors can keep playing the waiting game for Horford, and that is fine in its own right. However, being aggressive and seeking out alternatives would not hurt them either.
