STILLWATER, Okla. — No. 9 Iowa State (18-2, 5-2 Big 12) executed down the stretch to take down a gritty Oklahoma State (14-6, 2-5 Big 12) squad, 84-71, at Gallagher-Iba Arena Saturday afternoon.
The Cyclones never trailed after the 18 seconds after of a 0-0 gridlock. Despite a 28-9 lead midway through the first period, and a 51-21 lead at halftime, Iowa State found themselves up 10 (75-65) with a determined Cowboys squad with 1:41 to play. The Cyclones stayed afloat with a 9-6 scoring advantage over the final 101 seconds.
Tamin Lipsey, named Mr. Basketball by the IPSWA in 2022, was 4 for 4 from the free throw line and connected on a fast break layup putting the Cyclones up 82-69 with 0:37 to play.
Iowa State was efficient offensively at Gallagher-Iba, shooting an impressive 51% from the floor in the contest and a critical 42.3% on 3-point goals, connecting on 11 of them. The Cyclones also did a great job of getting to the free throw line, going 21 of 27 on foul shots.
Milan Momcilovic was again phenomenal, shooting 8 of 12 from the floor and a perfect 8 for 8 from the line to finish with 29 points and seven rebounds. Joshua Jefferson added 20 points in 24 minutes and also tallied four rebounds and two assists. Iowa State won the rebounding battle, 36-27.
Despite fouling out with Jefferson, Blake Buchanan contributed nine points and nine rebounds.
Iowa State, 18-2 for the first time in program history, hosts Colorado (12-8, 2-5 Big 12) on Thursday at 6 p.m.
