Local boys wrestling standouts win STAC Championships

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (WETM) – The area’s top boys wrestlers have been crowned as STAC Champions.

Eight of the Twin Tiers’ top boys wrestlers took home Southern Tier Athletic Conference (STAC) Championships, on Saturday. At Binghamton High School, Horseheads and Waverly finished behind team champions Maine-Endwell, accounting for 7 of the day’s individual winners.

The Wolverines earned titles from Rhylee Stotler (126), Daltton Davis (138), Matthias Welles (215), and Troy Beeman (285). Waverly also added a runner up with Cooper Robinson at 157 pounds. The Blue Raiders crowned champions with Josh Knapp (110), Gavin Hornsby (132), and Zach Schrage (165). Horseheads tacked on additional points with runners-up Tanner Knapp (118) and Jaxson Burchard (190).

Elmira took home 5th place as a team, seeing Lavonte Gibbons win the 144lbs title, and Scott Fairbanks’ 2nd place finish at 138lbs. Corning earned 12th as a team, with a 3rd place from Carter Soltis (103) and a pair of 5th place results from Nicholas Woodcock (138) and Blake Teeter (144).
