Salt Lake City Olympus four-star athlete Sam Ngata has committed to Oregon, according to Rivals’ Hayes Fawcett. He is the son of former Ducks defensive lineman Haloti Ngata.

Ngata chose the Ducks while in Eugene on a junior day visit this weekend. He also holds offers from the likes of Utah, UCLA, Michigan and Nebraska, but he has his sights set on his father’s alma mater.

The 6-foot-3, 215-pounder is the No. 274 recruit and No. 12 athlete in the 2027 Rivals300. According to the Rivals Industry Ranking, a weighted average that utilizes all major recruiting media companies, he ranks as the No. 547 recruit and No. 32 ATH.

Oregon finally extended an offer to Ngata while he was visiting at the end of the season in November. Head coach Dan Lanning provided the good news and the Ducks soared to the top of his list from there.

“After the game, I was just chilling in the recruiting area,” Ngata told Rivals’ Greg Biggins. “Coach Lanning walked up to me and said I have some great news for you and told me I had a scholarship offer to play for the Ducks.

“As a kid, Oregon was my dream school and the only school I even thought of going to. It’s crazy that I can now say that my childhood dream has come true.”

His father, Haloti, is one of the best to ever come through Eugene. The Baltimore Ravens selected him with the 12th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft and he went on to play 180 games across 13 seasons. He won a Super Bowl, earned All-Pro honors twice and made five Pro Bowls.

Sam Ngata becomes Oregon’s second commit in the 2027 cycle, flanking Alabaster (Ala.) Thompson four-star defensive lineman Cam Pritchett, a top-200 recruit and top-25 DL in the nation. Oregon just inked the No. 3 class in the 2026 cycle, according to the Rivals Industry Team Recruiting Rankings.
