Can AC Milan extend 20-game unbeaten Serie A run against high-flying Roma?

It is second versus fourth in round 22 of the 2025-26 Serie A campaign as Roma welcome AC Milan to Stadio Olimpico on Sunday evening.

The hosts will seek revenge on their visitors after a narrow 1-0 defeat in November’s reverse fixture at San Siro.

Aiming to secure a place in the Europa League top eight and avoid the added burden of a knockout playoffs, Roma made light work of Stuttgart in their penultimate group stage clash on Thursday.

A Niccolo Pisilli brace saw Gian Piero Gasperini’s men emerge victorious for the fourth time in five matches since starting 2026 with a 1-0 defeat to Atalanta.

During that run, Roma have kept four clean sheets and scored two goals in each outing, characterising their solidity at both ends of the pitch.

With Juventus and Napoli – the two teams either side of them in the standings – scheduled to play each other hours before I Giallorossi take to the field, the capital-based outfit have a huge opportunity to strengthen their Champions League ambitions with all three points on Sunday.

However, Sunday’s hosts have struggled against Milan in recent matches, winning just one of the last 12 league meetings.

After a shock 2-1 defeat to Cremonese in their Serie A curtain-raiser, Milan have not tasted a league defeat, winning 13 of the subsequent 20 outings.

Despite this, Max Allegri’s men are now six points shy of Inter at the top after the Nerrazuri’s 6-2 demolition of Pisa on Friday.

Given the nature of their 1-0 victory over Leece last time out, which extended I Rossoneri’s unbeaten run to six matches, they will know a much better performance is needed against a Roma side just four points adrift.

With both Milan and Roma ranking in the top three for fewest goals conceded and most clean sheets, there is a strong likelihood that this weekend’s clash will take an attritional route.

In the first of three straight away matches for Sunday’s visitors, Milan will hope their strong record on the road comes to the fore, with 22 points and no defeats from 10 league games.
