Indiana’s Heisman Trophy winning quarterback is off to the NFL Draft as the favorite to go No. 1 overall.
Fernando Mendoza made it official on Friday: he’s declaring for the NFL Draft.
He shared the news on social media, posting a video to Instagram and LinkedIn reflecting on his time and accomplishments at Indiana before sharing his intentions.
Mendoza, the most decorated individual player in Indiana program history, leaves Bloomington as a Big Ten champion, a Heisman Trophy winner, a Rose Bowl champion, a Peach Bowl champion and a national champion. He holds the program’s individual record for single season passing touchdowns with 41.
He spent one season in Bloomington after spending the previous three at Cal where he was the Golden Bears’ starting quarterback for the 2023 and 2024 seasons. He entered the transfer portal following that 2024 season and joined his younger brother, Alberto Mendoza, at Indiana.
Mendoza is currently the overwhelming favorite to be selected by the Las Vegas Raiders with the No. 1 overall pick.
