The veteran striker completed a move to German second division leaders Schalke from Serie A club Fiorentina on Thursday and signed a deal until the end of the season.
Schalke are four points clear at the top and aim to return into the top flight after three years in the second tier. They have the best defence with just 10 goals conceded in 18 matches but have only scored 22 goals, which they hope to change with the help of Dzeko.
Dzeko, who turns 40 in March, won the Bundesliga in 2009 with Wolfsburg and was league top scorer the following season. He left in 2010 and has since played at Manchester City, Inter Milan and Fenerbahce before arriving last summer at Fiorentina.
However, he has seen little playing time at the Florence club and is yet to score.
Dzeko has 146 Bosnia-Herzegovina caps, scoring 72 goals, and will aim to help the team qualify for the World Cup in play-offs in March.
