FC Schalke 04 have confirmed the signing of veteran striker Edin Džeko.
The 39-year-old joins the 2. Bundesliga side from Fiorentina on a deal running until the end of the season.
“From our first contact, Edin made it clear very quickly just how keen he was on the move. With him, we’re bringing in a striker who has performed at the very highest level throughout his career. Alongside his leadership experience, our team will benefit from his abilities as a target man and goalscorer,” said Schalke 04’s director of professional football, Youri Mulder.
“He made it very clear during our conversations how hungry he is for a successful second half of the season with us, and we’re really looking forward to seeing that.”
Džeko is no stranger to German football, having spent four seasons with VfL Wolfsburg, with whom he won the Bundesliga title.
“From the moment there was interest, I took a very close look at Schalke and watched several matches,” said the former Manchester City forward.
“My discussions with the club, head coach Miron Muslic, and, of course, with my former Bosnia & Herzegovina teammate Nikola Katić, were very positive.
“It’s impressive to see how the team has developed this season after some difficult years. Now I want to give everything so we can be successful together in the second half of the campaign. I’m really looking forward to my first home match at a sold-out VELTINS-Arena," continued Dzeko.
