United States President Donald Trump will hand the World Cup trophy to the winning team on July 19, FIFA president Gianni Infantino has said.

Without naming Turmp, Infantino said on Thursday at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland that he and the president of the co-hosts would conduct the victory ceremony after the final in East Rutherford, New Jersey.

It remains open whether Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney would also be involved for the other two host countries.

Infantino and Trump have been close for months, and Infantino controversially awarded Trump with a FIFA Peace Prize at the December 5 World Cup draw in Washington.

The two also conducted the victory ceremony at the Club World Cup in July 2025 in East Rutherford. Trump defied tradition when he at first remained on stage for the victory photo with winners Chelsea before being led off by Infantino.

Heads of state of host nations are traditionally involved in victory ceremonies at the World Cup, including Russian President Vladimir Putin in 2018 and the Emir of Qatar, Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, in 2022.
