Red card! Kim Min-jae ejected as Bayern Munich clings to lead

FC Bayern was reduced to 10-men vs. Union Saint-Gilloise

Bayern Munich center-back Kim Min-jae picked up a needless yellow card in the 18th minute, which immediately set off a red flag for many fans.

After all, Kim has not exactly been the best at controlling his body or aggression over the course of a game. In addition, his positioning can sometimes leave him to make late challenges.

In a game where Bayern Munich was heavily favored, maybe it would not be an issue? Well…

In the 63rd minute, those concerns would be validated. As Union Saint-Gilloise attacker Raul Florucz was set to sprint past Kim, who reached out, grabbed the USG player’s arm, and was whistled for a second yellow card. All of a sudden, Bayern Munich was reduced to 10-men, while holding a 2-0 lead.

For Kim, his poor positioning and delayed reaction cost him mightily in this scenario. As it stands, Bayern Munich is seeking to hold its two-goal advantage and just escape this match with much needed Champions League victory.
