Thierry Henry was on Monday Night Football last night, where he spoke about Liam Rosenior after the new Chelsea boss earned his first league win in his first league game in charge.
Henry referred back to Rosenior’s time as Strasbourg coach, and what impression he had got of the young coach in his time in France.
Henry a fan of “character” Rosenior after impressive spell in Ligue 1
Wesley Fofana tracks across the pitch.
“He did really well,” Henry said. “He was one kick again from getting into the Champions League. He disturbed a lot of teams, like PSG at the Parc des Princes. Tactically his team was very sound. High pressure, being on the ball, trying to create, a young team with lots of intensity, the way they were playing.”
“He’s not shy to say what he thinks, he’s a bit of a character, and I hope we’re going to see that a bit more.”
Now we all know that being called a “character” in English is a bit of backhanded compliment at best. But there’s no denying Rosenior does have a funny way about him, and his old quotes have already been dug up and laughed at.
But “characters” can be a great success in football too. The game is full of them. You just need the results to back up your eccentricities…

Jamie Carragher was also on Sky Sports last night, and he had some interesting thoughts of the early innovations we’ve seen from Liam Rosenior as Chelsea boss, calling them unique.
Carragher also had his fair share of criticisms to make, although they tended to be focused on the project as a whole rather than Rosenior. The pundit pointed out that simply buying young players was proven to be a losing strategy.
