Bayern Munich’s Allianz Arena pushing to host 2028 UEFA Champions League Final

The final of Europe’s premier club competition may return to FC Bayern’s ground shortly

The magnificent Allianz Arena, Bayern Munich’s stadium, has applied to become the host of the UEFA Champions League Final in 2028. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen ensured that they’re pulling out all the stops to make it happen.

“The city of Munich must submit an official application to UEFA by June 2026. Currently, we are the only applicant,” Dreesen said (t-online journo Julian Buhl via @iMiaSanMia) The UEFA Executive Committee will then decide in September 2026 where the final will take place. We are, of course, making every effort to secure the hosting rights. With the Allianz Arena, we have the perfect infrastructure for such a major final, and UEFA is well aware of that.”

If this goes through, then this will be the third time that the Allianz Arena will host the final. The first one was when Bayern reached the final in the early 2010s but apparently it was cancelled for “unknown reasons”; no one was crowned winner that year. The second was last year, where Paris Saint-Germain deservedly smashed Inter Milan 5-0.

Only two clubs have reached the final of the Champions League in their home stadium: Bayern (as stated above) and Roma in 1984 (when it was still called the European Cup). Both finals supposedly involved a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw.
