Bournemouth could be about to pull off a rare Premier League double over Brighton.
Marcus Tavernier put the visitors ahead from the penalty spot at the Amex Stadium after Amine Adli was fouled by Bart Verbruggen as he bored down on the hosts' goal.
Initially, the Cherries attacker had been booked for simulation before referee Paul Tierney was recommended to consult VAR before making his final decision.
Adli's yellow card was subsequently rescinded and the Cherries awarded a spot kick.
Brighton's players remonstrated with Tierney at the half-time interval while the home crowd were incensed that their side had fallen behind to the retrospective spot kick.
