Reading striker Jack Marriott says his side "have to react" after losing to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
Reading striker Jack Marriott said his side "have to react" after losing to Leyton Orient on Saturday.
The 3-1 away defeat was Reading's first loss after a run of five games unbeaten, four of which they won.
This run had seen Leam Richardson's side climb from 18th in the table to ninth, but Saturday's result saw them drop down to 11th with a seven-point gap now between them and the play-offs.
"The bar we have set across recent weeks has to now be the baseline," Marriott told BBC Radio Berkshire.
"We can't come to come to tough places like this and just not perform, we have to react to today's loss. The past few weeks are the levels that we set as a group and as a staff and that's what we demand of ourselves.
"We have to we to bounce back next week, that's the only the only option. For where we want to go we just can't we can't accept that performance, we have to look over it and understand what went wrong."
Marriott has been influential for the Royals in their last six games, registering four goals and two assists.
The 31-year-old, who joined the club from Wrexham in the summer, has since scored nine League One goals in 15 appearances.
"Of course I'm happy with how it's going here so far but I'm not happy with just that and I want more," Marriott added.
"I want more and the squad wants more. We all have to go into every game fighting and we can't ever rest on our laurels.
"I'm pleased with my goals so far but I'm not content with that by any stretch. The desire, the hunger to go into each game and perform has to always be there."
Reading are next in action on Saturday when they host Barnsley at the SCL Stadium.
