The RB1 in Lansing is headed south to bolster the Rebels RB room
The running back room in Oxford for the 2026 season is going to be loaded as four star transfer from Michigan State Makhi Frazier committed Monday to the Rebels.
Frazier (5’10” 218 lbs) is originally from McKinney, Tex. and played the last two seasons in Lansing for the Spartans. He led the team in rushing this past season in seven starts but faced injury concerns keeping him out for part of the year.
His 520 rushing yards was on a 4.5 yards per carry clip in 2025, and his highlight tape shows a player capable of power running and getting past the second layer of defenders in the Big Ten. With his running style, wearing the No. 5 and Texas lineage, it reminds us of another player with all those attributes… Kewan Lacy. Not saying he will be version 2.0 because that is asking too much and setting expectations too high, but the Power Four experience sets up Frazier to likely be battling for the RB2 role behind Lacy.
There is going to be a fierce competition at this position, and it could signal a bit of a shift to a more run heavy offense in 2026 with how Pete Golding is stockpiling running backs. Already there is Frazier, LSU transfer JT Lindsey and Southern Utah transfer Joshua Dye added via portal along with returning Shekai Mills-Knight and Lacy. That should lend itself to better depth than what we saw in 2025 no disrespect to Logan Diggs who came on strong late in the season.
Portal season is still ongoing with the Rebels ranking somewhere in the top 25 depending on which recruiting service you prefer. In terms of quality though, across the board Ole Miss has upgraded talent in the transfer market according to these analysts.
All the discussion our staff is hearing is that things are not settled just yet and more activity can be expected this week.
