Since the dismissal of Xabi Alonso from the managerial role earlier this month, Jurgen Klopp has been heavily linked with the Real Madrid job.

After stepping down as Liverpool manager in 2024, the German tactician has been appointed the Head of Global Football for the Red Bull group – a role which he is enjoying.

And while Real Madrid have named Alvaro Arbeloa as Alonso’s replacement, links to Klopp persist, with the 58-year-old being tipped to take over the reins after the end of the season.

However, speaking to the media, Klopp has downplayed the links to Real Madrid, stating that there is no real interest but only hype from the press.

“Excited that Real Madrid is interested in me? No, because they’re not really interested, it’s just media hype,” said Klopp, as quoted by Le Journal du Real.

The former Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund manager went on to make it clear that he was very happy in his current position with the Red Bull group, but refused to rule out anything.

“I’m consistent and I don’t change my mind overnight. Of course, I don’t rule anything out completely, but I’m 58 years old and I’m very happy in my position,” he stated.

Klopp is held in very high regard by the Real Madrid hierarchy, and the German is seen as the main candidate to eventually replace Arbeloa as the first-team manager.

Despite his comments, the 58-year-old German is understood to be willing to consider a return to coaching in the summer should Real Madrid firm up their interest and make a concrete approach.
