A manager has come out with some comments over the weekend and is seemingly accepting that he could lose a star player to Chelsea.
When Chelsea come calling, for some, it will be hard to resist. And for clubs too, it can be hard to resist the money that will be offered for said player.
Sources: Chelsea hold positive talks to sign Jeremy Jacquet and close on fee agreement!
You will all know the story, unless of course you have been hiding under a rock for the last week. Chelsea are trying to sign highly rated young centre back Jeremy Jacquet from Rennes this transfer window, and they are currently deep in negotiations with his club to try and agree the fee.
The only thing that is missing is the fee agreement between the two clubs, but it feels like that is getting closer and closer now. Personal terms between Chelsea and the player have already been agreed, as reported over the weekend. So not far to go now.
You can get a lot on a transfer from public comments by a manager involved in it, if you read between the lines and hone in on certain words. And that is what I am getting from the latest comments by Rennes manager Habib Beye.
Beye on Jacquet
Jeremy Jacquet in action for Rennes
Rennes boss Habib Beye said over the weekend, in quotes picked up on X:
“I believe Jérémy [Jacquet] is very important to our objectives, and if he were to leave, we would have to lower those objectives, because he’s a key player for us, one of the best on our team.
“We have to be able to resist this kind of approach. There are several factors beyond my control in this matter. We’ll see what happens in the coming days.”
Out of his control
Those are the key words to me. He is basically admitting that Jacquet could go and if he does, there is nothing he can do to change it.
