Himad Abdelli was absent from the teamsheet as SCO Angers were swept aside by Olympique de Marseille (2-5) on Saturday night. Speaking at the game, Le Sco’s manager, Alexandre Dujeux, confirmed the reason for the Algeria international’s absence.
Abdelli’s contract at Angers is nearing expiry. His current deal expires at the end of the season and there are no signs of a renewal. He is, therefore, the subject of intense transfer speculation. It was Angers’ opponent on Saturday night who are, coincidentally, making concrete steps to sign the player.
Speaking to Ligue 1 Plus, Dujeux confirmed that Abdelli already has an agreement in place with OM, and it is for this reason that he did not play against Les Phocéens. “I felt a reticence from the player to play, and also from my side, too,” he added. As of now, there is, however, no agreement between the two clubs, with Angers reportedly holding out for a fee of around €4m.
Roberto De Zerbi was also questioned on the Algerian’s potential arrival at the Vélodrome, but he was coy on the topic.
