It sure is starting to look like Kevin Stefanski will be the next head coach of the Atlanta Falcons based on new reports on talks between him and the team.

Following the conclusion of the season, the Falcons made the bold decision to fire head coach Raheem Morris after a pair of 8-9 seasons. While they weren’t the results the team hoped for, they were far from as bad as other individuals dismissed by their teams in recent weeks.

However, it looked like the decision to seek out a veteran coach to take them to the next level might pay off when the Baltimore Ravens moved on from legendary coach John Harbaugh after 18 seasons, a couple of weeks ago. Yet, despite being viewed as a serious contender for his services, all signs point to the coach being on the verge of finalizing a deal with the New York Giants.

SNY NFL insider Connor Hughes confirmed as much on Friday, but also added that he was “hearing Kevin Stefanski is the favorite for the Falcons job” and that whoever didn’t get Harbaugh would have the recently fired Cleveland Browns head coach as their backup plan.

Stefanski has already spoken with the Falcons and is set to meet with team officials again today. A new report from The Athletic’s Dianna Russini revealed a planned part of Saturday’s conversations that seems to suggest he is also in the final steps of winning the job.

“Stefanski has been working behind the scenes to assemble a potential coaching staff to present to the Falcons,” she wrote in a post on X.

Along with presenting his staff if he is offered the position, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported that Stefanski’s chances of landing the job this weekend will be boosted by his willingness to keep a well-liked member of his predecessor’s staff.

“Stefanski has done research on potentially working with Falcons DC Jeff Ulbrich in Atlanta,” he wrote. “Owner Arthur Blank would like to keep Ulbrich, who would be a top coordinator candidate on the market if available.”
