Early on Saturday, Diario Expreso reported: “The tricolor central defender Piero Hincapie will not be able to be in Arsenal’s away match against Nottingham Forest today (12:30), for the 22nd date of the Premier League. Unfortunately Hincapie will not be taken into account by manager Mikel Arteta due to a groin injury, in the previous match against Liverpool (0-0).”
Mikel Arteta had said in his pre-match press conference that Arsenal had no new injury concerns following the Carabao Cup semi-final first-leg win against Chelsea, replying “no” when asked if there were any fresh problems, but had been vague about the possibility of a player returning to face Sean Dyche‘s side.
Before the game, Arsenal had four players sidelined, with Cristhian Mosquera and Max Dowman out with ankle injuries, Hincapie missing with a groin issue and Riccardo Calafiori absent with a muscular problem.
Arteta suggested one player could yet return after further checks, saying: “It might be (time), so I need to meet now with the medical staff. We have a training session now and see if somebody is available for the weekend.”
When asked to clarify who that might be, Arteta added: “I cannot tell you, but I don’t know.”
When the squad arrived at Forest, Mosquera was with them.
