Despite being an athlete herself, Kate Middleton does not want to go up against her son Prince George in one sport. Apparently, the 12-year-old is already a formidable foe on the rugby pitch — and it’s another reminder of how much he’s grown!

Recently, the Princess of Wales hosted the World Cup-winning Red Roses England ladies’ rugby team at Windsor Castle, where she shared that she enjoys playing rugby at home with her kids Prince George, Princess Charlotte, 10, and Prince Louis, 7, who she shares with husband Prince William. During the conversation, they chatted about how some schools don’t separate boys and girls on different sports teams when they’re younger, which Middleton agrees with. After all, she plays with her daughter and her sons at home.

“Charlotte is playing rugby but at home with the family, so she isn’t yet at school,” Middleton revealed, per Hello! “Rugby is so accessible; Louis is playing touch rugby and it’s such a great game. Actually, they shouldn’t necessarily need to push boys and girls in particular sports too early.”

“Obviously as they get physically stronger – George now, if we play at home, I do not want to get tackled by George! But, up to a certain age I think it’s great,” she added.

Like many parents, sports is a big part of the Waleses lives. In March, Prince William met with players at a Six Nations rugby match between England and Wales. At the time, he shared that their sons spend most of their weekends playing rugby. “We go from one competition to the next,” Prince William said. Middleton then added, “Louis is 6 and he’s just started touch rugby and George is 11 and he plays a bit more. They do really enjoy it.”

In addition to their talent and love of sports, the royal siblings are also just as competitive as their parents are. Princess Anne made note of this in a 2023 appearance on Mike Tindall’s podcast The Good, The Bad, & The Rugby with the Prince and Princess of Wales. Princess Anne joked that the kids inherited “just a little bit” of their parents’ competitive spirits.

Middleton responded, “What I think is really interesting is that they are all obviously very different temperaments.” She added that the kids “are growing and trying out different sports.”

“They’re obviously still really young,” she continued. “It’s going to be interesting to see how that grows and develops.”
