MT. VERNON, Ind. (WEHT) — The saying, “Act like you’ve been there before,” certainly applies within the Mt. Vernon girls wrestling team.

“You look at the culture here, you look at the trophy cases, we wrestle really well,” said Mt. Vernon Girls Wrestling Head Coach Ashton Forzley. “To be able to add another program and emulate that success at the same time is amazing.”

Madalyn McCarty and Ambryn Siddons have only added to the legacy for the Wildcats.

“They are very, get in your face,” Forzley said. “They are aggressive. They don’t like to back down from their opponents. They do what they do.”

What they do is win.

The two will be representing Mt. Vernon in just the second season of girls wrestling being a sanctioned sport in Indiana. It’s also the two’s second time going together.

“I’ve done this three times already so it’s nothing new,” McCarty said. “It’s still exciting. Especially since it’s our last year.”

“Just really excited to be here,” Siddons said. “Last year, might as well live it up.”

McCarty will be making her fourth trip to state, Siddons, her second, but they said no matter how many times it happens, the love from the community goes a long way.

“It means a lot to feel the support of the community,” Siddons said. “Just to know people have our backs and are rooting for us back at home.”

In order to bring home some hardware, coach Forzley said nothing has to change.

“It’s the same thing as every other match,” he said. “You have to buckle down, wrestle hard, and wrestle smart.”
