Manchester City may have a bidding war on their hands when it comes to the pursuit of Stefan Ortega among Premier League clubs, according to reports.
The 2023 treble winners have enjoyed a stellar transfer window so far as newly-appointed director of football Hugo Viana spearheads a revamp of the side that recorded the worst Premier League finish under Pep Guardiola last season.
City failed to win a fifth straight Premier League title and finished behind Liverpool and Arsenal in third place with 71 points, crashed out of the UEFA Champions League at the Round of 16 stage and lost the FA Cup final to Crystal Palace.
However, the ship seems to have started to take a turn after the early additions of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Tijjani Reijnders, Marcus Bettinelli and Rayan Cherki to Manchester City’s squad in the transfer window for a combined fee reaching £110 million.
Kevin De Bruyne, Scott Carson and Kyle Walker have all left the club, with James McAtee expected to complete a permanent move away for a fee in the region of £25-30 million. Despite interest from Germany, the 22-year-old academy graduate is believed to be keen on staying in England.
Ederson has been heavily linked with a move away from the Etihad Stadium but the 31-year-old Brazil international is set to stay put and enter the final 12 months of his current deal, which could see him leave for free next summer.
Stefan Ortega Moreno has been subject to speculation after refusing to rule out the possibility of leaving Manchester City this summer when quizzed about his club future on international duty in March.
Manchester City have agreed a £27 million deal for academy graduate James Trafford this week to bolster their goalkeeping department, which could witness the departure the Ortega Moreno in what remains of the transfer window.
According to the information of Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, three unnamed Premier League clubs are currently pushing to sign Ortega Moreno, while Turkish Super Lig side Fenerbahce are also in concrete talks.
Trafford will undergo medical tests next week as he prepares to return to Manchester City, who are now expected to part ways with Ortega Moreno amidst reported interest from Burnley – which could have made for quite the exchange deal assuming Trafford’s transfer goes through,
For now however, it is insisted that a move to Burnley has fallen through, despite a summer departure for Ortega becoming increasingly likely amid James Trafford’s impending arrival alongside the expectance that Ederson will remain.
A new right-back remains on the cards for Etihad Stadium bosses as it remains to be seen whether Viana and co re-enter negotiations with Newcastle over Valentino Livramento, who has been identified as the club’s number one target to replace Walker.
