In a recent interview with Mundo Deportivo, Joan Laporta talked about various issues that engulfed Barcelona this summer, including Financial Fair Play margins and a lack of revenue generation from player sales.

In light of these events, Laporta was asked whether or not Barcelona will sign more players during the summer transfer window, having just confirmed the arrival of Marcus Rashford.

It must be noted that Barcelona have already roped in two new signings this summer in the form of Joan Garcia and Rashford.

While Roony Bardghji has also joined the club, he was initially hired as part of the Barça Atletic team.

But when asked whether or not Barcelona will sign more players, Laporta offered a clear answer.

“In principle, there will be no more new signings,” said the Barcelona president, who argued that the team is already strong and doesn’t need too many reinforcements.

“We have a good squad, and the coach wants to strengthen the first team with players from the reserves. But we don’t expect new deals at the moment,” he added.

While Barcelona could certainly use more reinforcements, especially in the fullback department, Laporta’s statement likely stems from the fact that the club are simply not in a position to sign more players.

As mentioned earlier, Financial Fair Play rules have hurt Barcelona badly this summer, with the club desperately in need of fresh revenue.

Therefore, unless the Catalans manage to make a big sale this summer, it is unlikely they will be signing more players anytime soon.

That’s, however, not to say that the club won’t be active in the market. They have recently sanctioned the sale of Pau Victor and there may be more players heading to the exit door in the coming weeks.
